OK FINALLY crawled under deep enough to get a look at the tag on the passenger side of the tranny...my car is suppossed to have a 3 spd turbo hydro, and that is what this says on the bottom pan, but, I would like to know if I have the Correct Original tranny...the engine is correct so this would realy make me happy......what I can seeon the tag is 75P480, and then below that 75cp 40309 as well as I can see even using glasses this may be off a digit, but, i think this is what I have...am I looking at the correct tag for ID? Thanks Eric M.

The trans will have the VIN # stamped on it somewhere, and that will tell you if it is in fact the original for the car....sometimes it will be stamped on the tag, but then again, it could be just about anywhere.
Unfortunately, if those are the numbers you got from the metal tag on the right rear of the trans, it's for a '75 model car(modified Julian date of 480...sometime in April), and not even a Corvette, at that. The number for your car should start with 70(for 70 year model), and then it would have either a K(for 350 engines) or a S(for 454 engines).
So, your's would show 70Kand then three numbers representing the (modified)Julian date of build.
The "Modified" Julian date is a little hard to figure out, since there are only 365 days in a year....but...here's how it works(some carbs are dated the same way).
The Julian Date would start on the day that production started on the cars, not the transmissions.
So, say that production started on Aug. 21st, the trans build date would be 233, meaning the 233rd day of the year. Then, the dating would continue from there until the end of production. So, a build date of 385 would mean Jan 20th(365 + 20).
So...all of that just to say that your car does not have the original trans in it...

Well Joel,
Thanks for the info, When I bought it I verified the matching #'s on the engine and the guy I bought it from said he had the tranny rebuilt, I was not sure how to check those #'s so i did not I guess what he ment was he PUT In a rebuilt!! It runs good and shifts nice and crisp so I guess I am glad of that, Does not having the original tranny Make a big $$ difrence...in value. I see a lot of ads saying #'s matching engine, but, not as many mention matching tranny. Thanks for the input.

Eric, see my reply on your other thread.
I don't really see that being a major issue if you ever want to sell the car. Will it hurt the value? Maybe...just depends on what the future buyer is looking for. Will it make a BIG difference? I don't think so.
I've got a couple of 400 out in the barn..I'll check and see what they are, but Imma thinking they're gonna be even later than '75.
Drive it and enjoy!

First Time post so here goes.
OK...What is the real skinny on having a matching numbers tranny? A corvette specialist in the resale market says that it does not impact the price and for judging that they prefer technically correct car, but that you can still get a Top flight award if it is correct for the car. Others say yes it is a big deal. So, which is it?
