@Rick Jay, I'll see you at Watkins Glen this coming weekend. Thumbs Up

I'm glad I could offer some info regarding a potential problem.

I don't post here much. Actually I haven't posted much tech/help stuff here in quite a few years.
Once some of the "heavy hitter's" joined, I pretty much relegated myself to PM's, personal phone call for technical chat and lurking status. They made me feel like my knowledge level was inferior to theirs. Ouch Even though I have spent most of my life working on cars, heavy equipment, aircraft. And no I don't know everything. Oops, Sorry. I'm off topic. My bad. Gotta go! Clown

Sarge, I'm glad that you posted about the driveshaft. It was very useful information. I did increase my driveshaft size for more strength. I aso went with a forged yoke that's beefed up to use a Spicer 1350 U-joint. My shop made the driveshaft to the identical end to end dimensions. When I went to install it I had to pull the engine back out to get everthing to fit. Once I got everything installed, I didn't have any slip movement do to the increased size and overall beefed up design. Needless to say, I had to pull everything apart and have the shaft resized to allow for some slip clearence. I don't want to be pulling the engine to get the driveshaft out........not cool. I only wish that the rpm spin balance was higher. Thanks for the great post, Larry

Vette(s): 1978 Base model, White w/red int. L-48, 4-speed, wide ratio. Has 82 CE wheels. New HEI & LT1 Headers now. UPDATE, NEW Tremic 5-SPEED installed. 2007 C6 Yellow Conv. Loaded. UPDATE-Sold Sept. 2021 2016 C7 Yellow Coupe, Z-51, lots of other options.
Thanks Darryl for the info, I'm installing one right now.
I pulled my engine last week to get the Tranny in so I'm doing a little updating at this time before I reinstall everything. I was upset with Keisler for not informing me that the engine WOULD have to be pulled to get the tranny in on cars with the welded in cross member, now the possibility of a Drive Shaft problem on top of that, what's next??       I love these cars!!!

Hey Chuck, sorry to hear that you are having to go through the extra work to get it installed. I was lucky to have a bolted in cross member.  I was talking with Dick "VetteCountry" today about how his cross member was welded in. He cut his cross member and did a little fabricating so he can remove it easy enough to allow for the trans to come out like normal. You might want to talk to him and get some ideas to maybe do something like that. Just a suggestion.

You'll know if your driveshaft isn't right. Trust me. Also do yourself a favor, and throw that cheap rubber trans mount that was supplied with the kit in the garbage and put in a good polyurethane mount. My rubber mount was collapsed to the point that there was metal to metal contact between the mount and the cross member.

I can honestly say that my car is now smooth and vibration free. On my way to Watkins Glen this morning (for the Northeast gathering) I took my car on a nice open stretch of highway and buried the speedo. It was like night and day. It's actually a joy to drive my vette again.

The last drivetrain issue I have is the differential. It's a little noisy. Somethings not right back there. I'm not sure if the bad driveshaft caused damage to it from all the vibration or if the shop that rebuilt it didn't do a good job. I guess it doesn't really matter. But I have to address that issue over the winter.

Take care! Sarge
