Possibly. I drove the car for nearly 20 years before I ever screwed with the carb. The float stuck after a winter without starting it since had rocker covers off while I was putting in new valve seals, twice (don't ask

). Figuring out why it wouldn't start forced me to read up on the carb and finally adjust it. Amazing, for the first time since I bought it 20 years earlier (at Atzenhoffer Chevy in Victoria, TX - yep it's a TX car originally) that when I stopped when the engine was cold I didn't have to keep a little pressure on the gas to avoid stalling. So clearly the factory adjustment was way off on the cold idle. Lot's else could be off too.
I still though wonder about the converter. I looked up TH350's of the era and the stall speed on the stock converter seems to be in the 1400 to 1600 RPM range which seems right for an L48 with peak torque at 2,400 but low for an L82 with peak torque at 3,600. That kind of shift in the torque curve from the L82 cam with about 220 deg duration vs. the L48 at about 200 deg just seems to ask for something different somewhere in the drive train (other than gearing).
