Does the shifter not go to the rear as far as it does forward?
If you need help with the adjustment, and you do not have a service manual(shame on YOU!!), send me a P/M or e-mail, and I'll send you a page out of the manual for the adjustment procedure. It's not really all that difficult, but you will need the car up off the ground a ways(safely!) to get to the linkages, and the shifter.

It may travel the same distance, but it touches the console in R,1. I do have a shop manual and the Haynes manual too (wouldn't be without them or this group).. just getting my trailing arms back in and will work on the shifter next ...
Hey, stranger!!! Long time no see!!
G'day Mate. I've been busy with the wife's MGB (engine rebuild) and haven't even touched the vette for ages. Got all my guages replaced with reliable electronics and couldn't get the engine to idle right so did my compression test and found oil and water coming out of #3. Pulled the head on that side and found a 2" crack in the bore.
That's where I'm at at the moment, waiting to pull the engine and get it repaired.
Been pretty busy at work too.

Ray,

Possibly off crutchers in 2 weeks, but will still have the boot for a while i guess. Fortunately the work on the vette (trailing arms etc) i can do from the floor, sitting/laying down. Once I'm able to drive I want to have it ready to go. I have everything ready to go back in , but i forgot to order new bolts... you *&%# believe that. Oh well they will be here Monday.. Hope your back is better these days?

My transmission was hard to shift and kicked out of 3d on deceleration. I had it rebuilt by a professional shop, $200 plus $500 in new parts. Now it works great, even the old whine is gone and it sounds much better. Mine needed two gear cogs, two shifter forks, a counter shaft and a small parts rebuild kit, stuff like bearings, bushings and gaskets. He also repaired mine with some newer style srynchros that shift smooth and wear lomger. Good luck finding a good tranny shop.

Just to add one more bit of information -- I put a pilot bearing (not bushing) in and apparently damaged it when installing the transmission. The damage consisted of pushing the bearing completely out of the race, so effectively there was no bearing or bushing. In that configuration, my tranny would quietly slilp out of 4th gear when decelerating. The only indication was a drop in engine noise as it went down to idle speed.
Not knowing what the problem was, I took the car to a local repairman who eventually found the problem. He noted that, with the tranny pulled but the clutch in place, just looking through the clutch the remnant of the bearing (the race) looked just llike a bushing. It was only when I told him it was a bearing that he figured out the problem.
Again, this only happened when in 4th gear and decelerating.
