Jack,

If your M-22 was made in June of 1969, when was your car built?

Any chance the factory made a mistake & substituted the M-22 instead of the M-21?

Joel,

The M-22's ratios in '69 were--2.20/1.64/1.28 & 1-1

Anthony

hey anthony, there was a site that gave you the build dates according to your vin sequence, of course I can't remember which one it is.

It most likely was a change. The crusher was only available with L-88

Dave,

I agree that the M-22 is probably a replacement, but you have to admit that the transmission date and the car build date (about 2 months apart) are close enough to make an argument in either direction.

That is unless there is no stamped VIN or if it is different, then there in no possiility of a mistake on the line.

Either way, that's a great find Jack!

Jack,

I misread your postings on another thread.  I thought your trim tag said August.  So much for that train of thinking.

Hope to see ya @ the Chatterbox this summer.

The problem was that I couldn't figure out what site I saw the build dates vs. the vin numbers. It wasn't a site at all, it was my corvette black book. I actually confused myself. When I was looking for a numbers matching motor I knew the car was build't in March. Got so much going on right now I had to slow down and think a little. Plus the excitement of the M22 was just too much for the brain to handle. Hey Flandy if your still checking this post, just above that 3088336 number there is another stamped number. You'll need a flashlight maybe a mirror to read it. I couldn't see it without my reading glasses on. Then towards the back of the casing youll see a 6 digit, looks like P9H11C Yours won't be the same but similar, let us know what you find.JacksL7138761.6868865741

Big smileHello, Flandy here, just another request for help on my transmission.  It is on the car hoist and I found the other important numbers, so here goes.  The stamped number on the tailshaft is 186117900 and the build code is P8D11, or the numbers are on the main case, thank-you in advance

P= Muncie

8= 1968

D= April

11= 11th day of the month (April)

There were no outside markings (A,B,C) to indiate M-20, M-21, or M-22 until 1969.  All 3 used the same case with the same casting #'s.

Your VIN should be stamped to theleft of these numbers, if it is the original tranny.
