Anyone know where I can find the switch that goes on the front shift lever hole on the side cover of a Muncie transmission?

Thanks!

That switch is for the TCS(Transmission Controlled Spark) system for the distributor vacuum.
I think Paragon may have them, or Lectric Limited....

It's purpose is to allow full vacuum to the dist. in 3rd & 4th gear only when at operating temp. When cold, or overheated, the temp sender allows full vac. Any other time, it is controlled b y the TCS switch on the trans. The earlier cars also have a timer/delay relay on them. '73 was the last year for the delay...Adams' Apple2008-03-10 06:38:31

Also................are the shifter shafts the same as those that are in a side cover without the switch?

The switch is a simple closed/open type deal. It should show continuity with the shifter in 3rd or 4th, and open in the neutral position. (Later trans only operate the switch in 4th gear)

About the only thing I've ever seen go "bad" on them was the terminals on the outside getting broken off. They can "stick" sometimes, if the trans lube gets really gummy, but other than that, they're really pretty reliable. If it is just "sticky" it can be cleaned, usually, and then it will work
.
The shafts are different than the ones without the switch...

Hey Joel,

Im trying real hard to stump you, but so far I have been unable!

Do you know if the TCS switch on the side cover is a pin style or spade style................

I believe that would refer to the style of terminals that the connector plugs into. Pin = round terminal( O ), and Spade = flat terminal ( I ).
Without actually seeing what you have, I couldn't say which style you have...

Even with it broken off, you should be able to tell what style it has by the shape of the wire connector.
It really won't matter...if you can get another switch, you can always change the connector to fit.
I will say, most of the ones I've seen have been the round, "Pin" type, but the later years did have the flat, "Spade" type.
