Mystery noise

Vette(s): 1975 convertible,with the hard top and power streering.it a 350 L48 with auto trans. the color is light blue.
 Only when I am backing the car into my driveway I sometimes get a noise(knocking kinda ).I have replaced all the u-joints,and today when I did the main driveshaft I greased everything and it did it when I got home tonight.When driveing I don't hear it.Any sugestions...Confused Iam.Oh and when I had it on the lift I rocked the wheels back and forth ,no noise.

Rick, it sounds like it might be your differential bushing where the diff bolts up to the crossmember.

The front diff bushing is prone to causing a noise, and even a bump when it gets all squishy. Take a look at the very front of the diff, where the driveshaft bolts up. There is a two-part bushing there, and it will prolly be mangled up. Easy to change, tho.

When it's undetectable, except for a little noise, sometimes you just have to wait it out until it gets a little worse and becomes more obvious. Now that you are aware that something is developing, you should have no trouble identifying the source before it leaves you inconvenienced on the roadside. In the meantime, make sure your fluid level is up. Sorry, that's the best I can contribute.

I looked in my manual,and in the AIM and I can't find the bushing you all are talking about.Dose anyone have a picture of this bushing so I can see where it's located.
