There are some gears that you just cannot set-up to be 100% quiet...it's not the ratio so much as the manufacturer, and the treatment(hardening) of the gear-set. I seem to see this more and more these days, mostly on Ferd vehicles.
My opinion on this phenomenon is just crappy materials, combined with mass production quotas have just made the industry too lax in quality control, ergo "That's close enough...".
New gears are also now being made with a "two cut" process, instead of the older, multi-cut process, which makes setting them up a bit different, when looking at the "pattern" on the gears. If you try to set up newer gears the old way, they will make a little noise. The new cut gear require a different pattern than we're used to seeing...makes it really hard to get used to.

[/QUOTE] Joel, I'm sure that you heard of REM coating. I had my gears done. It's not cheap $150.00. I was wondering about your thoughts on this. It makes the gears look worn in. In basically polishes the gear set. Joel...........................................?
