Starting to reassemble my 72 and I am now installing the shifter back in. I put a new Park/Neutral switch in and to adjust it I want to do it before the console goes on. Also to adjust this switch the lower screw is down in the shifter hole so the shifter needs to be unbolted to adjust. My real issue is that I am going to be putting my 2004r tranny in as soon as the interior is completed. So the question is if I adjust the switch now to start in park only the neutral side should be good? Also will the setting be the same for the 2004r or am i going to have to wait to do adjustments once the new tranny is in? I would think Park wont change and since the switch does Park neutral starting I would think it should be ok if I set it now. Your thoughts? I think the lukester got a 2004r so I am hoping to get the thumbs up!
Thanks

Has the shifter been modified for the O/D trans or not? If not, it's gonna be hard to adjust it to work properly for both Park and Neutral, since the gates are gonna be off a bit. I would wait, myself, until the trans install was completed....

Joel, Sorry I didnt state everything on my first post. Yes I have already changed the detent for the new shifter pattern on the side of the shifter. Had a tough time getting the old one off. Directions said to drill the already marked holes however the factory had more than just those spot welds! I guess I may have to wait for the trans although park shouldnt really change? The adjustment for the trans itself should be in the cable down at the trans so park wont change? And if thats the case I would guess the neutral switch will be pretty close? Man I'd really like to close up the interior before starting on the trans but maybe it wont work out.
Thanks

I just converted to a 700R4 recently and actually found that I was able to get away with the original gate and it actually gives me better options that I prefer (D and O without having to squeeze the button). As is turns out, my switch was on the money with no adjustment needed.
As Joel mentioned, once the trans is in the car and you have it running, that's the best way to see where the switch will let the engine crank.

Since the shifter has been modified for the 4 speed, you should be able to adjust it for park anyway. Neutral should be close enough after that, but a cable adjustment would handle it if it were not spot-on.
You can test the adjustment with a multimeter to see if Park is right, since Park will be latched. You can either Ohm it out, or connect the battery and check voltages, tho Ohming it would prolly be best. I could look at the wiring diagram to see what terminals you would need to test for the Park adjustment, if needed.

Thanks guys, I think I am going to try to ohm it out. I know it starts in park now as I tried that yesterday. Hope to head out later this afternoon to do that and get my insulation and carpet in.
Thanks again,
Rodney
