Hello,
After much cleaning I was able to get the code off the bottom of the rear axle carrier.
My question is, What Does The Number 1 Imply Before The Actual Code?

Thanks for looking!

That's a heavy dooty posi unit...good deal!
Cars assembled after August '69 supposedly used the '70 axle codes....which for your car would be CAZ. Not sure why your diff has the "1" on it....could simply be an anomaly, or the guy in charge of stamping that day had a hangover....who knows....
The "1" is stamped a wee bit off-kilter, so my guess is it was stamped AFTER the rest of the axle code was stamped.
