I am replacing the brakes and the parking brake system. I thought I might as well pull out the 1/2 shafts and the drive shaft to make the parking brakes easier to get to. I have my jack stands under my rear springs. Is this the best spot, and will it damage my springs. I also have the gas tank out, got a new one and all new hoses. Is there anything else I should do while I have it this far apart?
Thanks Lonnie

If you grab the differential yokes, one in each hand, and can twist them in opposite directions, the clutch pack needs replaced. If the rear tires were leaning in at the top, chances are the yokes are worn internally and need replaced. Check all u-joints. Check shocks.
I would be very of leaving the jack stands under the spring like that. Personally I would be afraid of it slipping on the spring. If it is a fiber spring it can damage it. I have always put the jackstand near the corner of the frame at the kickups. I don't know if this is the best or not, just where I place jack stands.
While back there working, give a look at the u-joints and strut rod bushings. Might want to change the fluid in the rear diff if it has not been changed in a while and add some posi additive when refilling.

Yep, it could damage glass springs, but wont hurt the metal ones. But due to the fact the springs are curved, they could slip. I would put them under the frame as Eddie described. Of course the suspension will drop at this point, but that's okay. If the angle is a problem, then you can support both the springs and the frame.
Thanks guys, I think I'll move my jacks. I pulled the 1/2 shafts out last night, gonna take'em to the shop and have new u-joints put in. This car has not seen the road in several years and eveything is dry and rusty and everytime I pull something there is something else I think I might as well clean up and paint. I don't want any regrets setting on the side of the road.
