Next week I`m taking my `69 to Van steel for a Rear suspension and rear end overhaul.

Trailing arms, spindles, bearings.bushings. U joints, pinion seals, the whole nine yards. Already replaced shocks with Koni`s and a 130# composite spring, which was a mistake. Will ask Dan If he`ll change it out for me to  360#spring

I am replacing the dog 3:08 cogs and am leaning towards 3:55 but considering 3: 70`s I have a base 300hp now but will be doing mods Later.

I`m not doing any road racing or drag racing, but I like Acceleration off the line. Long distance driving is minimal  but I do take it on the highway. How about sharing your opinions on the gear choices

Thanks

Bob, I have 3:55's in my '79. My engine is pumped up from the L82 original out put, guessing about 225 hp now, with more mods to come. The gears are just ok, not to bad off the line, but leave a lot to be desired in the crusing mode. I would like a little less engine RPM when crusing, gas prices are bad enough. I am only getting about 15-16 on the highway, if I behave which I don't, so the milage suffers. Of course the acceleration is not like havin 4:11's but it's liveable. I am considering a OD trans later in the list of changes.

Dave

I have a 79 L82.  replaced the3:55s with 3.70s.  it helped but not what I wanted off the line.  guess with this engine rebuild I'm in I'll be adding some HP and torque.

This is Flandy, I've got a 68 w 3.73's with my 427, and I'm thinking about 3.55s or possibly 3.43's, just for a little bit better mpg;s.  Good luck-Phil

I have a 3:36 in mine with a close ratio m21. Nice off the line feels like it starts to top out around ninety on the highway, but by then everything is in the rear view.

I've got 3.36 gears in my '74 4spd, and it runs about 3200rpm @ 70mph. If you do very much highway driving, I'd stay away from the 3.55/3.70, especially with the fuel "prices crisis"! my 2c

Got the car back.Real pleased with the work Van Steel did.

I upgraded the 330# composite for a 360# .Made a big difference.

The 3:55`s are a plus too. I can feel a much improved pull .

Went to a vette show at one of our local chevy dealers over the week end. There were a few c3 for sale

$18- 21 K

In good condition. The value of our cars are definately on the rise.

Some engine mods are next, Time to bring up the Horses a bit.

New intake manifold .some headers and exhaust to start with.

Thanks again to those of you that responded.

Sounds like they did you a great job. My car has the 3.36 rear gear with a 5 speed tremec tranny.
