That area seems clean except for the normal dirt. I cleaned all around the area including the half shafts from the yoke to the wheel. It's been sitting for a few days now and no leak. I can't figure it out. I'll keep an eye on everything back there and see what happens. Just don't make any sense that it was leaking and now stopped. The leak amounted to less than a shot glass but had me worried.

Hi

Just for my two cents. I would if the car has been setting, check the oil level and see if its down at all and if so how far. Make sure the rear end is clean and watch, standing and after driving. Checking the level will give a base from which you can keep a eye on things. |idea|I just put mine back in my 71 and must have spilt a little and thought the worst but was lucky. IF its leaking its always best to know it and find out were.

I'll do that. Don't know how much I can drive it now as it's snowing and don't want to take it out in it but I'll check the level now and when I can I'll take it back out and recheck it.
Thanks

A few things, is it possible the oil could have come from the vent and dripped down to the spring mount. If everything was clean you mite not have noticed the trail of clean oil which ran down from the vent. If its possible it came out of the vent maybe it was just a little over full and the rear dumped the excess out of the vent. When you check the level if its a little low and you refill and there is another leak, check the level again if its at the same low level as b4 then don't refill and keep an eye on the level. If it stays at the same place and its just a little low its most likly ok. One other possibility if there is a crack and the oil has just leaked down below the crack.

OK, thanks for the help. I'll check and keep an eye one it. I didn't know there was a vent at the time I changed the oil. After I found that out I thought that could be the cause of it hopefully. What did leak out wasn't much but caused some concern.
Thanks |saluteflag|

Just a thought... is there any overflow valve or something on the rear end?

There's a vent tube on the rearend so maybe that was where it was coming from. It hasn't leaked since I started talking about it. I'm keeping a check on it but still no leak. Makes me sound a little foolish to talk about it and it has stopped. Thanks |headscratch|
