Hey,
You guys know where I can find a rear end for the 1977 Vette? I hate to have to put a Ford 9" on
While were at it this seems to be a big problem. I need to replace just about every bushing on the car, and I cant find a bushing kit, and way cheap enough. Anyone know where to get a busing kit? And a new suspension kit (stock)?
Thanks,
-Louis

What is wrong with the rear end in your car?
And why would you want to go through all the trouble of fitting a Ford 9" in the car? Now your talking big bucks to do that.
Keep an eye out for a diff. on ebay, or pay around $350-$400 for someone locally to rebuild it for you. Find someone very reputable to do the rebuild.
As far as bushings are concerned, go with a urethane kit. They are much easier to install. Rubber bushings are a pain in the butt to press in. Urethane enhances the handling of the car. I used a kit from P-S-T. http://p-s-t.com Their urethane bushings are impregnated with graphite. Hence, no squeaking as associated with other urethane bushings.

a) what is wrong with the one you have?
b) why the hell you put a straight axle rear end in a vette.
c)I looked in my stack of corvette specialty catalogs and they all have kits.
bairs, corvette america, ecklers, corvette central, mid america, vette products of michigan to name a few..

Vette(s): 1978 vette with an 80-82 stlye rear end molded in. BW six speed & an L82... for now. Lowered with VBP springs and bilsteins. Polished torq thrust wheels. New paint, audio system, aluminum radiator... Flowmaster and extreme flow exhaust components.
I concur, unless you're making well over 600 Ft. Lbs there's absolutely no reason to go with a solid axle. By loosing the IRS you will just add weight, necessitate custom suspension fabrication, and downgrade your handling characteristics. Also, if you are making that much power... go with a 12 bolt, not a 9 inch.
As far as the bushings go... Energy Suspension makes a kit for the front, your choice of red or black for $53.99 sold out of the Jegs catalog, part number 35533108G.

The ford 9 inch is really stronger than the GM 12 bolt. It's due to the internal support of the pinion. It is a really tough rear end. BUT there is no way I would want to do that to a Vette, unless it's a ultra high HP set up for drag racing only.

No doubt that the Ford 9 has some benifits over the GM 12 bolt, but I like to keep my car all GM. A chevy small block is obviously a better motor than a Ford small block... but I wouldn't put a SBC in a Mustang, would you?
But I guess a Ford 9 inch from Currie isn't really a Ford part anymore is it, so touche'

I guess I'm even more pureist than that. I would never put a solid axle in a Vette at all. And I have to agree, Ford is Ford, Chevy is Chevy, and never the parts shall meet. Hopefully that includes unscheduled events at intersections!

well then you guys didnt like the 40 ford sedan i was working on and posted pictures of a few months ago..
chevy engine/trans (350/350)
mustang II front suspension, ford rear end.
putting a chevy engine/trans in just about any car is a pretty common in the hot rod world.
for any of you that know anything about a ford "FE" big block.. just about impossible to find performance parts for them.
comp makes half a dozen cams for the FE and a thousand cams for the SBC and BBC
so my point is that when making a custom rod.. doing this makes sense.. putting a solid axle in a vette makes no sense unless your building a one trick pony
Okay Ben, when it comes to custom rods, anything goes, I agree. But the other stuff I'm a bit picky.......
Aw heck if it has a motor and wheels I can be happy.
