Have pulled the trailing arms off my 68 and notice the seals in the rear, esp. the front are leaking. I also find about a 1/4 inch movement in and out on the 2 side yokes. How much play is normal? I have pulled the rear and the insides look good. Thoughts on how far I should go ? Any good rebuilders in the Mount Airy MD area ?? Thanks, Bruce

1/4" play on the side yokes might be about max. There is normally some play there, but it should not be 1/4". Chances are the ends of the yokes are worn, and they may need to be replaced. You will need to remove the yolks to replace the seals, anyway, so that would be the time to replace, or, if they are not worn, you can install thicker snap-rings on the ends of the yokes, to eliminate the play, or at least bring it to the minimum spec. (I don't know what that spec. is offhand, but, I can look it up.)
Also, if the posi clutches are worn, that will increase the amount of end-play in the yokes.

i would certainly open the differential . to my idea that 1/4 inch movement is alot .. but i am not a specialist :)
you can sometimes be surprised what you find in there..or not find ( in mine the clutch plates were missing )
