Recently had extensive work done on my car and during the work, I was told my rear sway bar was unattached. I had it re-attached. My question is will I notice a big difference in the handling? As far as I know, the thing was not attached for years. I hope to notice a big difference in the handling.....

Rob, my 73 didn't have one from the factory. I put one on 2 years ago I had to get a handle on driving it . It made a big difference, and with the P255/60R15 tires on all 4 corners it really sticks to the road.

Dave - do you know if these were an option or standard for the early 70's cars?

I know when we bought it in '76 it had air shocks in the rear that we had taken off and had a stock rear suspension installed.

The rear bar was an option for any of the cars that didn't have it as part of the original suspension.(ZO7, etc)
All the big block cars had them.
You will definitely feel a difference in the handling...

yes you will notice that is is there for sure..

but..

it may have been unhooked for a reason.

alof of times when you change something (usually springs, or sway bar) on the front suspension you need to change the size of the rear sway bar to keep neutral steering.

if you cant replace it, then you may be able to reduce the imbalance by removing or disconnecting the sway bar.

the rear bar reduces understeer, which is why all the BB car's have them...  as they are more prone to understeer (or plowing through turns)

but having this rear sway can make the car oversteer...  so you could have a car without a rear sway that has perfect neutral steering, then hook up the rear sway and it will oversteer.

then of course you could increase the size of the front sway to cut the oversteer but if you go too big you will wind up with understeer again.

its a balancing act.
