I am in northern Illinois near chicago and was wondering if anyone knew of someone in the area that could rebuild the rear wheel bearings for me. I was hoping to avoid the shipping charges for sending them down to florida or something like that.

Call your local Chevy dealer and ask them who does them,or contact a Corvette club in the area,just make sure they know what they are doing,if they try to use a big hammer,Run away with your spindles in hand.Those bearing housings will break,then it's big bucks.call your local machine shops,they might have some leads for you.I had mine done at a machine shop just down the road from my house,Isupplied the bearings,and seals,and shims,he did them for 10 bucks a piece,plus he sandblasted everything up nice and clean,nice job

I think im going to call around a little first but I might have to take you up on your offfer Phil, can I get them apart without any special tools to clean them up before hand?
Matt, must be that time of the year as I'm doing the same thing.. I put my car up on jack stands, leaned against the top of the rear tire and it moved in about an inch... I've called around, so far it looks like BAIR's is coming in with the best replacement cost @ $325.00 ea.. Of course as you stated, there will be a shipping charge... I'll continue to look, you do the same and hopefully we can come up with a good deal for both.

If anyone is interested I have the removal,setup and install tools to do it yourself. (Just pay for the shipping both ways)
1.The removal tool presses out the axel with a plate and bolts.
2.The setup tool is just like the outer axle but with the bearing diameters a few .0001,s undersize so the bearings slide on and off. No need to press on press off while you check for clearance.
3.The install tool will press on the inner bearing and set it to 100ft lbs to check final clearance.
These tools makes the job soooo much easier.I did both right and left trailing arms.You must first press off the outer bearing before getting started. You will need a dial indicator w/ magnetic base ,torque wrench and hand tools (Hint: you will need a 1 5/16 socket to use the setup tool)and a good large vice. Now is the time to buy that big ass vise you always wanted. A quality rebuild kit with !!!TIMKEN!!! bearings only!Also get a set of shims and spacer if they didn't come with the rebuild kit. You might want to replace the backing plate and e-brake parts while you have it opened up.
I will include the directions supplied with the tools.

Thanks for the offer Flandy, I ended up going with Vtech, I was able to drive there and just swap out the parts. Which was good since rebuilding them myself would have taken several days to let paint dry and stuff
