Hi,
In the past couple of months I have managed to loose two centre caps on my 79 L82. I have always had a vibration when accelerating from a slow speed on a tight bend or when leaving a side road and turning right joining a main road, this happens at any speed. However both the centre caps have come off the passenger side rear wheel. One I know came off when giving a large boot full of throttle on a left hand bend, the second (nice shiny new one) I don't know when or where. I thought the vibration/rumble was due to the locking diff so thought nothing of it. I even swapped the wheels around after the first time incase it was something with the wheel, but obviously not. When I jacked the rear up I did find some play in and out on that side and not the other, which going by other posts is the C clip missing in the diff, so that is something that needs attending to, would this also cause the wheel to vibrate enough to loose the centre cap? I'm open to ideas as I only have one more cap left before I'll need to buy another set.

Classic White/Saddle
All of the above . . . plus other possibilities, including:
bad shock absorber (remote possibility)
loose strut rod
worn strut rod bushing and/or bushing cap
lost a retaining clip on differential side yoke (yikes! hope not!!)
My money's on a loose wheel bearing.
Let us know what you find.

yep, my money's on the wheel bearings too.
When I pulled my spindles it look like someone ground them down to be able to slide the bearings on without a press. Really stupid idea
Let us know what it is.

just because they are easiest and you should change them if you do wheel bearings anyway..
Well wheel bearings it is, along with a "c" clip snapped, will have to get someone to do the build as I'm fine with most things but not shimming bearings without the correct tools, the c clip isn't a worry to replace so long as it hasn't done any damage. Anyway I'm now off to try to find someone here in Blighty who knows his stuff and isn't a robber. Thanks again everyone.
