My reverse lockout T-handle on the 4-speed shifter broke. Any way to access reverse until the replacement part arrives?

Its been awhile that I fooled with Chevy 4 speed linkage but I believe there is a cable rod that is attached to the T-handle,In the down position the rod blocks the shifter from engaging the reverse lever,in the up position visa versa, I'am gussing the cable rod broke off the t-hanble?, pull the knob, spring, and t-handle, look down the center of the shifter and see if you can get the rod out, maybe a straight long "roach clip" might work, if you get it you should be able to shift into revearse, but you wont have rev. lockout so you will have to be careful when shifting 1st and 2nd., if you don't get it out you will have to go under the car and pull the pin that holds the shifter in the linkage assy., its's the pin that runs back to front in the lever assy.held in with a spring clip, pull the pin and the shift lever lifts up and out, the lockout rod should fall out, to do this you will have to completly pull the linkage assy. and do it on the bench, lets hope the "roach clip works

Went out to the shed this morning and looked at the 4-spend linkage I had, it looks like you should be able to get the cable rod out from the top if it broke at the top without to much trouble, and it looks like you can get to the shifter handle pin from under the car without pulling the shifter assy.
