I am having trouble with stock shifter on my '71 Coupe. I cannot install a new Hurst from below without removing braces, crossmember and exhaust(and possibly dropping tranny). Can I install shifter from above if console is removed? I hate to take the console out and thne find it cannot be done from above. Anyone know? Thanks...Dave Witmer

Sorry, but the only opening you have through the floor is just enough for the shifter and boot. If you have the 4 speed, you should be able to install it from down under. Worst case, remove the trans mount and support the trans.
I'm not sure about an automatic though.

At one time I had a Hurst shifter installed on my 72
4 speed..and I know I installed it from under the car...been at least 10 years however since I installed it..AND I can not remember having any "real" problems... Took it off the
car after a few years because the shift knob sat too high
and I did not want to spend the money for a stock looking
shifter handle that sat a few inches lower..
You have to remember the 1st step on working on a Corvette
is to disasemble the entire fricken car...
