I know these cars are fast but this is ridiculous. I installed a new speedometer cable and I must have done something wrong cause the needle vibrated so bad it broke off. ( I was not breaking the sound barrier at the time I promise!). Also made a terrible screeching noise. Is the speedo shot or can it be saved? Any advice on replacing or rebuilding? Car is a 72 LS5 with a 4 speed!

Mario, unless the new cable you installed has a really bad kink in it somewhere, it appears that your gauge itself is messed up. If you a reversible dril, you can disconnect the cable at the trans end, and spin the cable with the drill. If the speedo is still jumping/bouncing, and making noise, the speedo head is poo-pooed....Ouch

Thanks Joel. I'll try that. But the needle actually broke at the hub. The bottom half still registers I can extrapolate and estimate my speed! Do I buy a new one or get this one refurbed? Recommend anyone? As always. Thanks!
