I have to replace my speedo cable, based on a repair manual I have it looks like it's going to be PITA. Since I have go into the dash anyway, I figured I might as well replace the tach cable too. I have 2 questions:
- Since they're 2 different cable length (speedo) does anyone one the correct one ?
- Is it as difficult to do as it seems ?
Thanks

The one(speedo) on mine was 27" long, if I remember right. Not really that hard to change, just takes some patience, especially underneath. Just make sure the car is cold...you're gonna have yer hands up around the exhaust.

Your testing My Memory but I don't think Cruise control was Avalable in 74. So You only have one Cable and Not Two. Once You Figure out how the Clip Works on th Back of the Speedo its not that hard, and You will Figure out in a Hurry How GM was more conceren'd with assembly than it was on maintainace. Richard...

You might consider installing a cable drive adapter. They can be installed for either or both the speedometer and tach cables that helps eliminates the possibility of a kink in the cables. It also has a grease fitting installed on it to make it easy to keep the cable lubricated. They're available from most, if not all the Corvette suppliers.
Just a thought.

Thanks guys, I'll be checking the cable from the trans side tomorrow. I want to check what gear size is inside. I might as well replace that too. warbird 2006-10-15 15:44:31
