Hey guys,
I was previously advised to "remove the pink spring under/behind the modulator valve, to allow the engine to rev a little higher before the tranny shifts at partial throttle." Just removed the modulator valve. I do not see a spring. Nothing came out, so I stuck a finger into the hole that the valve came out of. I feel something that feels like a round piston, but no spring. Also, if I put the valve back in, It requires a little pressure to get it in that last 1/16", as if there is a spring somewhere acting against me.
So... what am I missing? Has the spring already been removed or is it behind the piston? If behind the piston, how can I remove the piston?

Unless your trans has had a particular shift kit installed, there is no spring.(The factory never put one there.) The spring in question(if there is a shift kit installed) would be actually behind the valve, what you are calling a "piston".
The modulator itself should have just a bit of pressure on it as you tighten it down that last little bit, so what you are describing is normal. It is the spring tension inside the modulator itself you are feeling there.
If you want the trans to shift a bit later, adjust the screw in the end of the modulator. Screw it clock-wise for later shifts, c-clock-wise for earlier shifts.

Thanks Adam. Sounds like I have no spring. I installed the only shift kit the car has ever seen (I know the history, my brother was the only other owner) and it did not include a spring for the mod/ valve. I'll tighten the screw in the valve and see how much that can help.
