Well, I resolved the problem!

I had a look at the tranny and nothing was noticeable wrong. So, I moved the linkages back and forth, which was enough to free the shifter.

Here I was thinking major damage...what a relief.

Thank you all for your help.

Chet

speaking of the correct tool to adjust the linkage...how do you make one or where can I buy it? I have seen the description in the AIM and the service manual. AND how can you get it up in there between the trans body and the tunnel? BTW, if you get it stuck in two gears at once, letting out the clutch will stall the engine...done it...got a small hammer out and tapped the levers gently back in place. |headscratch|

Never saw a commercial tool....BUT give me a 1 foot long
piece of 1x6 even pine.. and I can make you a half dozen
tools.... only about 5 1/2 inches long ..

Like I said I believe they showed a full scale diagram
in the shop manuel I have (covers all 72 Chevys)not just Corvettes..

sounds like a piece of bass wood from the hobby store would work nicely. I will look again in the SVC Manual, I don't recall seeing a full scale drawing...just a description...maybe something like a putty knife adapted to fit. Anyway, I guess it fits in the lower part of the shifter, after all the levers are centered? I remember a pin fitting in my ol 55 hurst shifter to do the same thing. I have the shifter out, so I can experment a little before I put it back in and try to adjust. |headscratch|

I'll look sometime today for the manuel the diagram was in... If I find I will spend 5 minutes in my woodshop and make you one... you are exactly 1 hour and 15 minutes from my home (IF THE WIFE IS IN THE CAR..) an hour if I am alone... split the distance and we could meet some nice day
1/2 way between Baltimore & Frederick..

I went out last night and looked at the tool I had made and it really resembles a common pushstick I use when ripping lumber on my Tablesaw...

My wife runs to Pasadena every Wednesday during the school year to work on her skills as a Doll Doctor
