Hey guys I am having problem with my 4-speed it is hard to get in reverse. When I try it sounds like I am griding the gears. Whats wrong with it and how much is this going to cost me?

There is no synchonization in reverse, so you will normally get some "grind", unless you put it in a forward gear first. You will always get a grind if you are moving when you go to reverse. Always come to a complete stop before selecting reverse on most standards, late models excepting.

Now...if the clutch is not fully dis-engaging, it will cause a grind, reguardless. You should check the clutch adjustment first, to see if that will solve the problem. If not, then you may need a new clutch, and/or pilot bushing. Also check all of the linkage to make sure none of it is worn out. If you can turn the engine off, and it goes into reverse easily, then you have a clutch related problem.
There is nothing in the trans that will cause a grind in reverse. My money is on a clutch adjustment/pilot bushing wear issue.

Hey I just check and it will go in reverse with the engine off. I did take the car in about 3 weeks ago because the clutch pedal went out a broken bolt. SO could it be just a adjustment?
