I've had my T56 in for a week now and I'm lovin it big time. Did have a th350 with 3.90 gears and it sucked on the freeway. If I can answer any questions about your swap let me know, as I did it all myself.

I have plenty of questions about your swap..

what kind of t56.. there are 18 different configurations.

did you have to make any floor pan mods..

did you get a shifter in the 19.5" 2" left offset position?

mine came out of a 95 firebird, and I cut the tunnel right where the shifter came up so I could get to the four bolts that secure the shifter. Later I used the same boot that the camaro/firbird uses to cover the hole. I bought a comp/plus shifter and yes, had to modify it to go left about 2 inches and forward about an inch, then cut down a oem stick, removing the rubber portion from it and welded it on tilted back slightly and very short. Of course it still bolts to the shifter. The throws are 3.5 inches and fits me perfectly, I had to redo the shifter 3 times to get everything right. the trans bolted right up to my early block. Used a 95 camaro hyd. master and slave, and oem hose but had to lengthen it. 69 vette pedals which I put on my 79 bracket, special flywheel for this conversion from centerforce. and 95 camaro clutch. shortened the drive shaft 3.5 inches and lowered the center of my crossmember about 1.5 inches. |thumb|

Vette(s): 1978 vette with an 80-82 stlye rear end molded in. BW six speed & an L82... for now. Lowered with VBP springs and bilsteins. Polished torq thrust wheels. New paint, audio system, aluminum radiator... Flowmaster and extreme flow exhaust components.
Wow! Believe it or not I'm doing the exact same thing that you did! I've got a T-56 from a 96 camaro in my garage, the clutch, centerforce flywheel 700107, Redline ATF, and new hydraulics behind me. I've got a few questions for ya, please please please! OK, first I tried to install the pedals today. Argh! What do I need to do to get them out? Second question, the one that has been plaguing my mind for the past two months, how and where did you mount the master cylinder???!!! Finally is the sixth gear in the Borg Warner T56 .5? Thanks so much! -Adam |bouncy|

Here is the Story Vette magazine did on the keisler install. I'd buy the misc items from them and look at outsourcing the trans. It looks fairly straight forward. This might answer some questions.

to get to pedals you must romove your steering column and instrument panel because your gonna need all the room you can get. I have an assembly manual to help see what and where to take things apart. next take loose the master cylinder from the booster ( two nuts) and slide it forward. (no fluid loss). then under the dash remove the 4 nuts holding the booster and remove the booster. then remove your drivers side wiper and remove the 4 bolts holding the top of the pedal bracket .Oh yeah the brake pedal is connected to the booster so take the keeper loose the you can pull the booster. the pedal assmy should come out at this point. as for where to put the clutch master, there was a couple of dimples on the floor where the boot for a push type clutch rod would go and the dimples are just about the right spot for the bolts on the master cyl. If you are useing a camaro master you'll need to make a spacer to sandwich between the firewall and cyl. so you'll have the right geometry for it to work. when its right it will plunge strait down the bore and the pedal must have a full stroke. you wouldnt want to knock the bottom out of the master so work it till everything is perfect. the resevoir fit like it was made for the car in a little nitch up in the left hand corner behind the booster. just low enough to shut the hood, just high enough to not kink the hose. |saluteflag|
