I have a 80 vette that I recently restored.  Most every component is original.  Since the car sat for many years durying the restoration, I now have a bad tranny leak.  I need to have the tranny resealed.  While out of the car, should I upgarde the tranny and torque converter?  This is a standard automatic with 190 hp car.

It would be a good idea to rebuild/overhaul the trans while it's out. No sense in having to pull it back out later.
What do you plan on doing with the car? Hot-rod, racing, just cruizing? For normal, pleasure driving, just a basic rebuild will do. If you want to play a little harder, there are other things that you can do to step it up. The convertor choice will depend on what kind of driving you plan on doing.

I mainly cruise, but I do run the car at the strip 3or 4 times yearly with the vette club.  So I like to juice it up a little.

Then I would recommend a HP band($12-$15), and the stainless steel intermediate sprag race($30). The stock int. race will(eventually) break under heavy throttle in a drag race situation, or even in hard street driving, if the engine is putting out any real torque.
Other than that, the basic o/h, with a good "shift kit" to quicken the shifts should be all you need.
