I have been looking at old posts. Seems you post everything you do on your car on line. Thats a good thing. But Im worryed about what Im not seeing. What does old grease look like??Lets say 30years old grease. Does it look like you want it in you car? I hope you said no to old grease. Now lets look at your rear wheel bearings on your C3 VETTE I bet you the grease looks bad. GM says 25000 for service.I knew all this and tryed to get my bearing serviced. They said they were ok. You will hear them when there going bad. SO I WENT WITH THE FLOW. This was a bad and wrong thing to do.Mine did go bad.I was going about 80miles per hour And my whole f-in wheel and all breaks it was on fire too. My dog almost went out the window. The car went in to a spin before I knew what had happened. BOTTOM LINE IS I all most killed myself. So if you dont know when they were serviced. You have to get them worked on. Im telling you for your good you can kill people by putting this off.It cost me 2500.00 To put mine back togeter I got lucky and mine came out the bottom and got stuck under the car. If it would have came out the top it would have killed my car. Up threw the fender and takeing the glass and rear bumper I hope you all read this and never have a wheel fall off. You will save a lot of money if you get them serviced before they go bad. KEEP THEM OLD CARS ROOLIN SEEYA CHARLIE

One more thing. If your wheel comes off you will lose all control. It wont be a just pull over and stop BOBO. My car went in to a fast spin. I was in heavy traffic,God was with me. And I thank God no one got killed.

Great advice Charlie. I guess it's always tempting to put tho$e expen$ive things off. Funny you should mention it though because I had a Corvette expert (while checking out my rear bearings) tell me the same thing. He said a little play was acceptable and that it should become obvious when it's time to change them
. After hearing your story, I don't think I'll take it for any long drives until I can afford to change them out. Better safe than sorry
.

I'm not over this. I'm almost afraid to drive it. Every time the road noise changes I think the wheel is going to come off. I think I will have it back this week. I don't have much trust left. KLJ put a nother 700r in it. I hope this one doesn't leave me walking.

That sounds like a scary experience. But yours was an unusual occurrence. You should not take your rear wheel bearings apart until they show some end play. If they were properly assembled with the proper grease, they will last indefinitely. I believe that if you can feel any play at all, it is time to rebuild them IMMEDIATELY.
