Vette(s): 1969 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Just bought it from my uncle who owned it since 1971. Fathom green, green interior. 350/300, T400.
Need some help again guys. I would like to replace the stock torque converter in my '69 (350, TH400). I have a rebuilt 350 with a 278H10 Crane cam, engine otherwise stock. 3.08 rear end gears. I was looking at TCI's website, I saw that they list small bolt pattern and large bolt pattern, any idea what my '69 would have? I'm looking for something for a little more performance, but I still want it to be very streetable in town. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Matt

Well since comp cams owns TCI. If you call them I'm sure they can tell you exactly what you need.

No errors if you do that.

You might want a higher ratio gear put in. I am using a comp cams magnum 270h and it really needed something better than 3.08 that I originally had. I have a 700r4 trans in mine so I went with a 3.55 gear. Crane says that it needs a 2500+ stall converter and a 2700 to 3200 cruise rpm, your 3.08 will not do this for you. Its gonna feel like the engine is bogging and chugging along if you try to cruise at 40-50 mph.

400 trans torque convertors use the larger of the two bolt patterns. Most GM flywheels are drilled to accept either pattern. Just remember, the more stall speed you build into the TC, the more heat you put into the trans.ALWAYS use an external trans cooler w/any stall conv.,the bigger the better. You can use a 350 trans convertor and get a little more stall than the stock 400,but they don't hold up as well as a 400,durability- wise. |hammer| |hammer| |thumb| |thumb| |bouncy| Iwould keep the stall speed around 2000 rpm. Any more than that and it sounds like the trans is slippin',and it uses WAY more fuel. |thumb|
