Vette(s): 1970 T-Top350/350hp numbers matching 4 speed. It's a mess and 1970 Convertible 4 speed.
I have a 327 with a 3 speed 400 transmission in it. My question is what type of torque converter should I consider for it or what can I do to give it some pop. I will rebuild the engine up to 300 HP plus just street with some go. There is this shop that would rebuild it for 1000.00 with a shift kit.

No DOUBT!!!
IF you take the whole car to them, and they pull it out and reinstall it, yeah, that's a decent price, if it includes the converter. If you pull the trans and take it to them, then it's not such a good deal...

Stick with a fairly stock converter...no more than a 2000 stall speed. There are many, MANY converter builders out there. Some ain't so hot. I've had really good luck with Precision Converters of New Hampshire. They do excellent stuff, and most of the articles you see in the Vette mags with converter swaps use their stuff. They are kinda pricey, depending on what you need, but the quality makes it worth the extra initial outlay, IMO.

P/M me if you need any specifics, and I'll help ya out.

If you do go with a stall converter.... or even if you dont, use an external cooler... stalls to tend to generate a lot more heat...  i did have a 2800 stall converter once(in the '76), was kinda fun, especially when i coupled it with a 4.56 rear gear,  could really smoke 'em and not move an inch.... ah, the good ole days ;)  ... till eventually third gear clutches burnt... which in turn kinda burnt me on higher stall convertors for "street cruising"...
