Someone mentioned maybe a governor could be a cause...?  If anyone has any more advice, I'll be here all day.... well most of it.

 Thanks all !

 Jim[/QUOTE]

Highly unlikely that the gov. is the problem, Jim. The gov. basically controls the shift timing (up & down). The most common problem w/gov. is the drive gear 'apple coring', which is the wearing out of the plastic gear on the end of the gov. You would be having a problem with the trans not shifting at all, if that was the problem. Sometimes, there will be some 'trash' caught in the gov. valve, but that results in the trans taking off in 2nd or 3rd gear, instead of first.

Got the modulater and filter replaced yesterday afternoon.  Took more work than I expected getting the modulator out...

Drove around yseterday evening and it didn't slip once.  Maybe I dodged a bullet...we'll see....since it's my day off and the sun is out...I'm goin' for a cruise.

Thanks again for all the advice !

Day 3 and no slippage and I drove the heck out of it yesterday.

BTW, what happens if someone overfills a Tranny?  I've heard it's not good but never what happens.

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

When the tranny is overfilled, the fluid level touches the bottom of the rotating assembly.  This causes the fluid to whip into a foam.  The foam contains a lot of air.  The air causes the pressures to drop, and can create slipping.  This produces heat.  Combine the heat and slip and you have the recipe for poor performance and major failure.

Not to mention the leaks that will normally come with an overfilled unit. Fluid can also 'puke' out of the vent when the trans is overfilled, or when it gets too hot. Once the fluid starts puking out the vent, it creates a siphon-like effect, and draws a lot more fluid out, creating a low fluid situation. D*!#m the luck! Glad to hear you got it working again, Jim. Keep yer fingers crossed!!
