Finally got a chance to take my 71 for a good long cruise to test out my cluth replace and trans. rebuild. It won't stay in third gear when I let off the gas.

. Talked to Master Joel about the possibilities, and after much linkage adjustment it still does it. I'm taking it to the shop that rebuilt it so they can check it out, but don't look good. CRAP!!!! I just wanna go crusin!!!!!

Sorry to hear it, Terry...
Hope they take care of it for ya. Are you taking the car up for them to check, or just the trans? It's prolly better to let whoever did the work drive it, so they will see exactly what's goin on. If you take it out and take it to them, they might not know what to look for, specifically. Let us know what they say...

I had a similar problem and it was the linkage. The easy way is to remove the pivot from shifter and the twirl rod to adjust.
Another way to test is it's not linkage is to disconnet linkage and put car in third and then drive it that way and see if you still have this issue.
Good luck.
I did do some serious adjusting to the linkage Jack. I was thinking about doing the putting it in third with shifter unhooked and driving it. Maybe I'll try that before I bring it in. And yes Joel I am gonna bring the car in so they can drive it.
Thanks Guy's. I'll keep ya posted.

Good job Herr's!!!
She'll be fixed. She's been through worse.

Good job Herr's!!!

Update: I took the car in so the shop could drive it. They told me that I had to pull it back out, which I did. Only took me 1.5 hrs. this time. So they have had it since last Wed. and now they tell me they can't see anything wrong. They are bringing it to a Muncie expert to have a look. MAN, am I getting nervous!!!!!!!!!!
