Vette(s): Little on the rough side right now, with new paint and new interior it will be looking fine!
So i have now changed the transmission fluid, filter, and pan seal to try to fix the leak that it had, after adding the transmission fluid back in it was fine for a few hours then it started leaking again, i've attached a picture of where it is leaking from, is this now more likely from the shift rod seal? and if it is how do i go about changing that seal?

Thanks,

I hope to one day be as knowledgeable as most the guys on here... but till then I'll have to just keep asking the questions with the obvious answers....

Well. it may be the shift shaft seal, but they rarely leak that much, that quick, unless the rubber is completely gone. There is a special tool I use to change those seals without having to remove the pan, and taking the shaft out of the case.

Another possibility is that the o-ring around the pump is leaking. 400s have an issue with that sometimes, if the torque converter drains back too much. It raises the fluid level inside the trans too high, and the fluid will leak past the o-ring seal. A new seal corrects the leak, but the trans has to be removed to do that.
I would suggest you take the shift linkage off of the shaft there(use a 9/16" wrench to remove the nut), clean it all up nice(brake cleaner works well), and let it sit. Then look to see if it is in fact leaking from the shaft seal, or somewhere else. I hate leaks....trans fluid will run in all directions, and it's sometimes hard to find the actual location of the leak.
