Hi guys, My tranny lock cable is not quite lifting the linkage to the steering column high enough to 1) turn key off 2) lock steering wheel 3) stay in park. It is 1974 three speed automatic LS4. I can lift the linkage at firewall by hand and used some PB Blaster on it. While I have entire front suspension off I can get to the cable. Can I adjust it? Or is it a replacement? Cable in nice shape all the way. Thanks.

There should be a small amount of adjustment on the trans linkage itself, where that cable attaches. If there is not enough adjustment left to get the job done, you may need to tweek the bracket on the firewall a bit. Check to see if there is too much slop in the cable eyelets on both ends. If worn too much, it can create the same problem. Thumbs Up

btw..that particular cable has nothing to do with getting the trans into park. That is a function of the shifter cable. Check the condition of the shifter cable on both ends, too. Also, make sure the shift linkage arm is tight on the shaft where it comes out of the trans.

If the auto trans is the same as the 4 speed, there is a adjustment around the steering column on the fire wall inside the car. Loosen the nuts and turn it a tad bit to realign the position and tighten.

The cable is in nice shape and hardware the same. It seems as though the cable actuated at midpoint between tranny and steering is not being turned up enough to complete the desired action. I wonder should i work it up and down to loosen its' resistance to tHe tranny lock cable from pushing it all the way up. The cable has a small bend at the tranny link where it should travel further as the stick is pushed to park. This keeps it just a hair out of park and problem is solved when i pull the link At firewall up 3/4"+- Was hoping to tighten some length. Loosening the middle link at firewall may work. But how?
