can anyone tell me if the 76 automatics came with a THM350 or 400 The restoration book I have for corvettes say a thm 350 and the way to tell them apart is the shape of the pan, the 350 uses a rectangle pan with one corner angled while the 400 is a irregular shape, does that sound correct

I would suggest you take this as an opporunity to put in an OD auto trans

200-4R: 2.74 first, 1.57 second, 1.00 third, .67 fourth
Turbo 400: 2.48 first, 1.48 second, 1.00 third.
Turbo 350: 2.52 first, 1.52 second, 1.00 third
The advantage to using the 200-4r as a replacement is the size. It will fit in your car without having to change the crosmember or driveshaft length. You wil need to bend the trans cooling lines a little to get them to line up with the trans and you will need to hook up a TV cable. The shifter detent will need to be altered or replaced to match the trans shift locations. I bought my setup from http://Bowtieoverdrives.com but there are others that do the same thing.
