One thing about shifting is you don't have to muscle it. It takes a while to get use to.

I've been considering swapping my Muncie for a Tremec 5 speed in my '72. Everything I've read on Keisler's website claims it's a perfect bolt-in swap. I've got a 3.70 gear and would love to be able to cruise on the interstate at something less than 3500 rpm. Should I forget it and rebuild my Muncie?

Thanks,

Dave

I got mine from Classic Chevy and it's been my best update so far. Like Alan said it took a while to get used to the 2nd to 3rd shift being straight up then 4 to 5 pushing over. There trans was bolt in without grinding any holes and the stock clutch would have worked but I put in a new Zoom clutch, pressure plate and brg. because mine was worn. Their web site is very helpfull and Jeff was Great to deal with!! I think you can now see install manual on their site. I ran the speedo cable aroun the bottom of the trans and up the right side to stay away from the exhaust and it's been working.        &nbs p;         &nbs p;         &nbs p;         &nbs p;          Ray

With your rear at 3500 you'll be doing over 105mph with a TKO-600 That is the main reason I purchased the tremec to lower my rpm's at 65-75 mph your rpms will drop 32-36% depending on which tremec you chose go with classic5speedschevy..you'll be happier.

Thanks for the reply. The ability to cruise at 70 mph at under 2500 rpm definitely has me interested. I checked out Classic Chevy's website. I think the TKO-600 has the best gear ratios to use with a 3.70 rear end. I'm not sure if I want to cut the cross member or not. I'll have to think about that some. I assume it is possible to install it with the welded cross member in place, isn't it? Just a lot more work to install or remove it if it needs servicing.

Thanks again,

Dave

I installed mine with the crossmember in place, it is just a whole lot harder to do that way.  Make sure you read the directions.  They tell you how to remove and to rotate the bell housing during trans installation.  If you don't remove the bell housing, you will never get the trans input shaft into it cause the tailshaft is larger than a Muncie so you can not slide it over the crossmember as far as a Muncie will go.  Check your e-brake cable for clearance.  Mine seemed fine as long as the car was up on the lift.  The drive shaft rotated and struck nothing.  Once the car was down on the ground, the output yoke hit both the e-brake cable and the passanger side floor.

Good luck,

Glenn
