Having only recently purchased my 69 vette, I didn't know what to expect problem wise. The car was seldom driven and kept under wraps for 9 years. Since I've had the car ,I replaced the brakes, brakelines, calipers. and master cylinder. The last time I drove it before putting it away for the winter , I noticed that after the car warmed up drive wise it would bang in the rear end in first and second gear. So my question is where to start. Should I replace the u-joints or the wheel bearings first? Or is there some other problem I might be overlooking that would cause this?

Check the differential snubber bushing its on an entension bracket and bolts to a crossmember on the frame in front of the diff.,also check the transmission mount, they usually turn into mush after 25 years,I replaced mine last summer, practically nothing left but two pieces of metal, the rubber was almost gone, there are other possibilaties, but those are the 2 cheapest parts ,try those first

Thanks for the info . I'll start there and work my way through . I figured that from sitting so long parts would dry rot or gum up. Hopefully I 'll have everything done in time for Carlisle this year. Thanks again

After sitting that long, what are the chances the clutches in the rear end have seized?

Possible....I think that what Bob is describing is a "thump/bang" on take-off, and when up-shifting. No mention of the normal bump-bump on turns, as a posi does. I think he's gonna find a bad pinion snubber/mount, or possibly bad diff. cross-member mounts, or trailing arm bushings, or..........

I had a ghost "bump" on a 73 that had been sitting, turned out to be nothing more than a dried up U joint.

Curious to find out what this turns out to be. Our cars are wonders when it comes to chassis and suspension issues!
