I was having my oil changed today and I looked underneath to see if the tunnel insulation clips were still there. Much to my surprise, they were. Much to my disbelief, the drive shaft isn't in the middle of the tunnel!  I can't stick one finger between the shaft and the tunnel on the right side , but probably have a couple of inches on the left. What could have caused this? Could the trans. have possibly shifted to the right, or ???? There's no way I could even fit the tunnel insulation in there like that. Any suggestions?  I've noticed that it's been getting harder to shift into first gear. The rod is hitting on the left side because of how the trans/driveshaft is sitting.longhorn29438745.5742361111

You might want to check your motor mounts and the rear transmission mount they are probably bad.

I'll check that. Got to get it back in the air. Can you see the mount easily to tell if it's shot and would I be able to move it at all? It still doesn't vibrate.

My bet would be on the engine mounts. The trans won't move out of position very far unless the engine mounts are bad/loose, also. Think of a triangle...If you move one point of the triangle, the other two points have to move with it.
If the trans mount is broken enough to allow the trans to move, it will be obvious, Use a large screwdriver/prybar to see if you can move the trans left & right, and it stay there. If so, the mounts are bad.

You mention vibrate... would it vibrate at all speeds or could it say at 55. Mine has vibration at about 55 but dissappears after 65.. Kind of annoying because I run that speed zone and ... I know.. just do 60+... feels more like tires or front end but I checked underneath and all seems OK, nothing loose with wheels off the ground...

I could be wrong but, my 73 favors the right side. Not center in the tunnel. I thought it was strange but the shifter take up the room on the left. New mounts on motor and trans.

Actually, all of the 'Vettes 'till the late models had the engine/trans shifted to the pass. side about 1". Mostly to clear the steering linkage/gearbox, if my fading memory serves.
