Vette(s): 1976, custom paint, chrome headers/side pipes, front/rear spoilers, dual side sport mirrors, bubble tail light conversion
In 1976, they offered two options for manual transmission - standard and close-ratio. How can I tell which one I have in mine? (1976 L-48)

According to the information I found, the standard came with a 3.36:1 final-drive ratio and the close-ratio has a 3.55:1.

Vette(s): 1976 Stingray, L48 auto Buckskin/Buckskin Leather originally. Numbers matching.
I have never driven a car with the M21 close ratio trans, but have owned an M22 close ratio 4speed. It should be easy to tell if you have a close ratio or not.
My M22 would barely drop the RPM's from first to second. I pulled it from a rusted out '69 Chevelle SS, and stuck it in a '75 Chevy shortbed pickup. This pickup had a flatbed made from the trailer of a 18 wheeler.I tell you this to give you an idea of how heavy the bed was, with the M22, you could take off in third gear without winding up the motor and slipping the clutch. With a close ratio, second gear should almost seem like you are still winding out 1st gear. At least that was the way my M22 was.
