Why are the bulb sockets on the back of the Tach/speedo cluster blue and gray? Does it make a difference where they are used? The gray seem to be in the center of the cluster for Left and right directional and two sockets below that.. Does it make a difference.

Never really paid any attention to them, but it's possible the color difference has to do with some sockets being used for cluster illumination, and others for indicators lamps.

Just a guess into another possibility...they could be from different vendors. The color could be a quick way to determine one vendor from another and they're simply dumped into the same parts bin at the assembly plant.
