Vette(s): 1970 stingray, t-top, mulsanne blue with black interior, 406 ci with 444 hp, racing suspension, hooker headers/sidepipes - SOLD :(
so when I set about customizing the interior, I don't want to go too far. I'm gonna have to re-look up the shifter knob thread I posted a bit ago to see what I can do about fitting a C5 auto shifter knob on there, and also see what kind of options I have for brushed aluminum detailing...but the question I have now is about the interior lights. I'd like to change the lights of the dash without actually swapping the stock gauges...instead of the yellowish glow that's normally provided, I'd like to get a kind of neon blue. I think that'd provide just the right mix of modern look and classic vette style...is that going to be a matter of changing out the gauge faces, or is that going to be a bulb change?

my friend has some blue-face gauges for his 94 eagle talon I really like, and apparently the way those work is by running electricity right into the face, so the covers light up? I dunno, I could be spouting...I've had about 5 hours of sleep.

I'd also like to do it with the auto shifter display light...instead of having my gear display glow yellow, I'd like to have it glow the same blue as the gauges.

so...faces, or bulbs? what do I need to mess with?

Vette(s): 1972 Coupe Anything, but Stock and more mods to come! SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.
I have never tried this on our vette, but basically the bulb is what creates the yellow looking light. You might be able to buy blue bulbs? The bulb socket just pulls out from the back of the dash cluster. there are certain bulbs that are used to light up warning lights that you would just want to leave alone.

If you cannot find blue bulbs, I have been told that you can paint dash light bulbs with Blue Testors model Paint. You can get this paint at walmart and other places.

Auto meter Told me that many of the Sport Compact people that buy there gauges have been doing this and it works fine. I would run a test first.

yea I'll play with it a bit...I'm hopin to change out the dash cluster, the speedo and tach, and the shifter labels...and if I even get bold enough, have a blue dome light. the shifter knob I want to do in brushed aluminum, and maybe some brushed aluminum on the doors, blended with the stock interior to create that modernistic/nostalgic blend. for the seats, I want to take out the vinyl, re-do them in black leather, and have the word Stingray sewn into each seat cover right about where one's head/neck would rest. not too ricey for everyone, I hope?

Not ricey at all. My old 66 Pontaic Grand Prix had all blue bulbs. Dash and dome. Neat effect, I liked it.

The discount auto stores down here had red or blue for all of those bulbs. I have a claret interior and used red. Kind of gives it a warm glow
