What is the switch for - on the lower driver's side console area near the drivers right knee?

I'm not quite sure exactly where you mean,but on my 82 your describing, I think, the rear window defogger switch,but I'm not near the car now and trying to recall from memory.Does your year have that option?

3 position?? Mine on my '76 is only 2 position - on/off. What's the 3rd position?
The switch on my '76 is also a 2 position with a small red light when it's on.
Maybe the early 76's and later 76's had different switches??

My 75 has the 3 position switch. I may have given you bad info, and I apoligize if I did. Perhaps the defog was only single speed starting in 76. Easiest way to tell would be look at how many wires are going to the motor. 3 wires would be 2 speed, 2 wires is single speed.
