hey all, i've had my 79 for about 3 months and i love the car. i have 2 questions. first the completely stupid question - Where is the high beam switch????
2nd question: When i purchased the car i was not familiar with the switches and to make a long story short it was dark and raining when i first drove it home. in my effort to find the rear defrost switch i inadvertently switched the power antenna in the down position and left it there. When i got the car home the gen light would not come off and i had to replace the alternator. anyway, the antenna has not worked since and the previous owner swears it worked the day before i brought it home. i believe i shorted out the alternator somehow by having left the switch on. I checked the in-line fuse behind the antenna up/down switch and it is fine. Is there a relay or another fuse somewhere or do i need to replace the entire antenna assembly? thanks in advance.
.
Found the problem. It turns out the hot lead to the toggle switch became disconnected at the fuse box.

I can answer the first question....it is the turn signal..pull towards you...high beam on..pull it again high beam off.
as to the second question...don't have a power antenna on my 79.

Hey Marko,
I have an '80 model and am not familiar with a switch that operates the power antenna. Mine goes up and down with the operation of the radio. Are you saying yours is equipped with an over-ride switch for the antenna that is located near your rear window defogger? I am asking because I want to make sure I am not missing something here with my Vette. I would love to be able to get the antenna down when I am playing a CD and not using the radio.

There is a toggle switch below the steering column on the right hand side that allows you to set the height of the antenna. It has the CB option so the antenna is huge and you would not want it fully raised. The radio still works ok, but it's one of those things that bothers me because i want everything to work.

I will have to check that out. I don't think I have that switch as I don't have the CB option that some of the Vettes had.

No C3's came with an override switch for the power antenna from the factory. Although it would have been a good idea. I agree with you CVT4ME that I would like to have the antenna down while I am listening to a tape or CD. But the other thing is. I would like to keep the antenna from running down every time I turn the car off. So I installed a rocker switch ( hid it in the ash tray area) that kills the electric power to the antenna. So when I turn the radio on and the antenna goes up, I flip the switch and the antenna stays up, whether the radio is off or on, whether the key is off or on, until I flip the switch back, then it is powered again. It will make the antenna motor and cable last alot longer.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. The 79 with the AM/FM/CB radio has a stock toggle switch which allows you to set the height of the antenna. Set the height you want and leave it there. You can run with it all the way down, partially up, or all the way up. You can imagine how ugly a CB antenna would look fully raised all of the time. It is most definitely a factory installed toggle switch.
