My windshield wiper door is stuck open and I can't figure out how to fix it. I put in a new switch and connected the black ground wire and the other wire (brown & purple?) to the switch and it the switch is not working.

I tested the brown/purple wire for power and ther is no juice to it which is obviously why the switch is not functioning. I checked the fuse box and the fuse is good. Any ideas on why this is not working - what do I check next?

The wiper door was previuosly working with an aftermarket, 3 prong toggle switch in place of the stock 2 prong switch/knob. I removed the toggle because I was having a battery drain problem plus I wanted to re-install the stock knob. With the switch not functioning, the door stays open but at least the battery drain problem has gone away.

I am new to this car so I am not up to speed on how the entire wiper system works. Does one of the other buttons or knob underneath the dash need to be turned on or off to make this system work?

Any thoughts on a solution would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The round knob needs to be turned on under the dash to let the wipers run. This switch also needs to be turned off to avoid battery drainage. Try the round knob and get back with us on this one.

Also, the pull down switch on the right side would need to be in the up position to allow the door to close. Pulling down on the switch with the car running should make the door open all the way and hit the limit switch out on the firewall. This switch out on the firewall tells the wipers that the wiper door is fully open and it is okay for the wipers to do thier job.

Eddie 70-

Thanks for the ideas.

With the car off, I mannually pushed the wiper door down so it was closed, I then made sure the pull down switch was pushed into the "up" position, I started the car and the wiper door immediately opened again. While I was there, I turned my wipers on and they worked fine. With the wipers on, I turned the override knob to the "on" position and the wipers stopped midway through their stroke so the override switch is working to stop the wipers as it sholed but when I turn the overide knob to the off position, the wiper door still remains open.

What do I look for next?

Thanks for your help.

Into The Void-Vette Magazine Article

Sounds like there may be a line crossed somewhere in the wiper door system. Another thought is the solenoid on the back of the dash pad. I wonder if it is working correctly. I posted a link to an article that was in vette magazine a while back. It has the vacuum diagram for our cars. Trace out the system and see if one of the vac lines is in the wrong place. One more thing, I was thinking my wiper switch was a 3 prong switch.
