wipers will work on all speeds including delay until??? then nothing. During testing yesterday I had them on nothing was working I left the shop for a couple of minutes came back and there working???? The only thing that seems out of the norm is when there not working the control box clicks "loudly" every time you touch the switch.

Possibly a short/corrosion, causing the control module to overheat, and quit.
Check the fuse in the circuit board, in the fuse box.(if the '82 has this) Look to see if the circuit board has any sign of heat damage, such as dark spots.
I've seen fuses/connectors before that looked good, and ohm'd out ok, but would fail under power. When you put a load on a circuit, it can cause enough resistance to create a failure, even tho continuity checks out fine.

When the delay feature doesn't work, do the wipers still work in the normal(non-delay) modes? OR do the wipers quit altogether? If they quit altogether, I would think there is a problem with the switch, or the wiper motor, or wiring.Adams' Apple2007-01-17 22:13:09

When they quit they quit, it may do this from the first time it I turn them on (no heat build up) or they may have been on a few minutes then quit. Sometimes they will come back on, there is just no rhyme or reason???

Sounds like it could be a connector issue then, or the switch. The wipers should have 12v anytime the key is on(run). The switch provides the ground. You may also have a ground to the switch issue.
I hate intermittent problems like this!
I'm not up on the delay function, so I couldn't absolutely rule that(the module) out. I guess the place to start would be to verify 12v to the wiper motor first, then coming out of the switch, I would want to know if there is a ground signal. Time to take a gander at the wiring diagram...

Ok this is what i found. Ground is good at the motor and switch with engine, 12 volt constant on the switch from the pink wire coming from wiper controller box. Going through the switch selector at each speed no 12 volt out of any wire at the switch or motor, however the motor has a constant 12 volt on the white wire. The wiring digram shows 5 wire but all I have is 4????

At this point to me it looks like its a switch problem, if so does any one have a short cut on removing the retaining screw with out removing the dash?

The wiper motor will have a constant(key on) 12v on one of the wires. The switch grounds the other terminals to get the different speeds.
The 12v you see on the white wire is coming from the delay module, and the switch, and then to the wiper motor.

I'll have to study the diagrams for a while...maybe Mike(mkapp78-79) will see this and jump in. He's purdy good at the delay systems, I think.

One other thing I kinda remember is, the wiper switch itself has to be grounded. A lot of times, the ground for the switch itself will work loose, or the switch may not be mounted properly, and it can cause an intermittent wiper issue. Just another idea to think aboot...

[/QUOTE]

Do the wipers work in slow and fast speeds for any period of time?  What happens when you hit"wash"?  Does it cycle a few times and go back to park? Is the Vette running while you're testing the wipers? I've seen slow operation with a low battery before on other cars. With the car running the system would be charging. I know the MODULE has a bad reputation and is no longer available except used or NOS, I've seen em at $350!!!

By the way....I have NEVER even used wipers on any of my Vettes. I have tested them all and they do work, tho! Drove the white 79 home 1000 miles hitting some rain and didn't even use them, highway speedsLOL.  Mike
