Turns out as I was researching my car I found out some of the past owners

...all of them named Bubba

The car starts and runs just fine now so I thought I'd start looking at the electrical and vacuum stuff behind the center gauge cluster and console. I know the last guy who owned the car had his kid (who must have been color blind!) try to put in the after market stereo, but jeez. I've got plugs not plugged in, wires extended to nowhere...looks like for the radio that he never actually finished, wires spliced onto different colors and the safety neutral switch bypassed.
He has a wire jumped that allows the car to start but when I remove the jumper wire the car won't start with the key in the start position but will in the run position when I use the new start button I installed. This set of wires was well hidden when I checked the safty neutral switch. When I thought my ignition switch had fried I decided to put in the start button because my daughter thought it would be cool(ok, me too). Turns out the jumper wire just came loose. I'm still keeping the start button.
I'll post some pics If I can't track everything down.
Some pics:
near gear shift, 2 brown, 1 blue, 1 grn/wht

1 black, 1 red, 1 purple, 1 orange/black

At the bracket in center of console this socket

looks like it shouldn't be in this local.

Dave C..........My mantra: I can not be bought!! Long and short term leases available.
In the words of Zora Arkus-Duntov "Is your seat belt fastened? Alright, Let's go"
Yeah, I know, Shut up Dave.
