Correct...the horn itself has 12v with the key switch on. Grounding the wire completes the circuit, and beeps the horn. Your Power Probe(when on "ground") is basically taking the place of the pin switches. 
Rich's diagram is correct for the early cars, too, so that helps.

Hey that might be great news. That should mean that once i get the new terminals and flasher I should have a working alarm. I am hopeful that the relay will be ok as its a $50 relay. What ever happened to a $10 relay!
