I was under the impression that either your ignition or door key ( probably door key ) would enable or disable the alarm. Maybe your locks have been changed?

Glenn is right, it is your door key. If it doesn't work, your locks were changed.

Henry -- I have the EXACT same situation. Door locks were replaced & I have no key for the alarm. Do you know if a locksmith can make a key? Perhaps it sounds a bit moronic, but is there any way to tell if the alarm even works before you go through the expense of having a key made? BCLIFF -- does yours work?? Do you use it?? Is it even worth the aggravation Henry & I are up against?? |headscratch|

Just change the whole lock assembly (new keys included). It's held in place with a simple slide spring clip. It's nice to have a working FACTORY installed alarm system. It works very well, saved my Vette from being stolen twice, worth the effort.

Joe,
Yes, my alarm works. I think it is worth getting it to work. Words of wisdom, when you are messing with the alarm at the rear of the car, alot of times it is just a bad connection and jiggling them around may fix it, but if your under there when you fix it, it will scare the crap out of you when the alarm goes off. It happened to me.

Well Henry -- It looks like we have another "project" worth doing! Thanks guys for the advice -- especially Tom for the "heart attack" warning! |eek|

My alarm wasn't working when I started on my 75. The switches were either broken or not hooked up. First thing I did was purchase a wiring diagram for the whole car, to give me a idea of what it was going to take to get it back up and working. I orded a new key/lock from www.riksvet.com to start and ended up replacing the alarm/headligh limit switch and the hood switch. I was able to salvage the rest of the switches/wiring. Of course as anyone that has done anything on a vette knows, there isn't much room to work, so it was work a little, cuss a little, work a little, cuss a little, hehehe. In the end the factory alarm was restored and because I only had one key to the whole car that worked, "the ignition key", I ordered a lock set for the rest of the car, so that I now have 2 keys to the car, one for the ignition and doors and one for the alarm. Nice feeling to see/hear something fully restored.
