So I am trying to figure out how to best connect this unit mid 1980's to my new Clarion AMP and EQ
I can splice RCA plugs onto the L/R speaker wires and go into the AMP L/R inputs but I am unsure what the EQ will do with that signal for Front and REAR? This unit also has the 5 pin DIN output/input??? that if I recall correctly went to a amp for the rear speakers. So is there anyway to get proper separation running this unit into my EQ. I have seen some connectors of DIN to RCA then into the EQ but the DIN is only rear output (I think)??? ANY thought??? Also I am not sure about a couple of the wires the Brown (Amp remote???) and the Red with black strip???

Hi Steve, If your EQ has a front/rear fader then it only needs one left and one right input. Then the EQ will distribute front left/right and rear left/right to the amp. Most EQs have a sub output also.
The Alpine 7164 is before my time dealing with them. You may want to contact Alpine about the unknown wires:

I would guess that the brown wire would be for a remote power input....such as an amp. You could test it with a test light to see if it was "dead" until the stereo is turned on.
The red/black is most likely the control for a power antenna, since it appears to be coming out of the unit along with the ant lead. Most of those are ground controlled, so this wire might be grounded ONLY with the unit on. Could also be powered, but you would need to test that, too.

Thanks!
Going to try hooking the left and right speaker wires to the RCA jacks then into the main input of the EQ then onto the amp....
Wish I had bought new carpet since I have the seats and everything out to redo the stereo!!!!
