I have an 80 with a rat's nest wiring issue (can you say romex?). I am putting the alternator back on the driver's side and have found 2 8 gauge wires going along frame to battery. Factory? The alternator is a typical 3 wire delcotron. 1 wire to battery line. 1 wire to idiot light and the third "enable" wire. In examining the wiring diagram, it looks like that wire loops through the bulkhead connector and returns to the battery line on alternator. This doesn't seem right as the alternator will always remain live. HELP

The alt. will always have 12v on the large terminal with the red wire @ "Batt".
The other red wire @ "V" terminal goes to the underhood light, and comes from the starter, with a fuse link. This is the one you see as "looping back" thru the junction block. This one also powers the high blower relay.
"G" terminal is ground(black wire)
"L" terminal(brown wire) should go to the gauge.Adams' Apple2007-07-17 11:06:12

Correct, the "L" terminal is for Light, it is just a trip for a basic idiot lamp,  the actual gauge is on a switched 12 volt line. But, as my delcotron knowledge goes, enabling the V line turns the alternator on and creates a current draw, not good when car is off. Also, any thoughts on the 2 eight gauge wires going to batt? Do you have the page of the assembly manual that shows the alt. wiring loom for an A/C car? P.S. thanks for the wiring diagram, that did get me this far, I appreciate the help.....
